One of Kirsty’s first loves is sports journalism. She understands and knows not only her state-of-the-art equipment, but also sport – everything from football and rugby to cricket, fencing, boxing, gymnastics, and everything in between.
Sports photography is exciting and challenging. It is all about timing, a skill learned through experience.
Capturing the most exciting moments of the action is Kirsty’s ultimate goal, and this requires planning and skill. Whether it is a basketball jump-shot, the strike of a golf ball, the moment a rugby player pauses before taking a try, or a goalkeeper defending a penalty – this is sports photography at its most exciting.
What makes Kirsty stand out is also her innate ability to also capture the more reflective moments of sport – the baited breath of the crowd as they await the referee’s decision, the player’s face as he is substituted, the swimmer before she takes to the pool.
Knowing what makes a great shot both before, during and after a game, race or match is what makes a sports photographer great. Kirsty is just this.
